Our Story

Istmo Adventure and Yoga retreat was a dream that became a reality of the co-founders and managers Sean Davis and Ayesha Irani Davis.

Panama is our adopted country, and we love it and are inspired by it!  When the Isthmus of Panama rose from the sea, it changed life on Earth in many countless ways.  Today this bridge of life hosts an astonishing wealth of biodiversity and is the nexus of a multitude of connections- climatic, biological, and cultural- that link the globe.

ISTMO is the Spanish word for isthmus or a small body of land connecting two larger bodies of land. In this spirit, we hope that our retreat center will help bridge connections and personal transformation for our guests.
Sean was born and raised in Galveston, Texas on the Gulf Coast.  His whole life he has lived close to and had a special connection with the ocean. He has traveled extensively around the world and has lived and worked as an educator in Chile, Colombia, and Panama.  For the past eight years, he has been a SUP practitioner and instructor, leading tours on the waterways of Panama. He attended cooking school in New Orleans, Louisiana, is a former Emergency Medical Technician, and a proud father of two.
Sean is the chef and SUP instructor at Istmo!

Ayesha was born in Bombay, India and moved to the United States at the age of 13.  She served in the Peace Corps in Paraguay.  Her love for travel and adventure led to work as an Environmental Engineer in different countries throughout Latin America.  In Panama, she met Sean Davis and finally settled down to have family and create this dream called Istmo.  Her pride and joy is her family and two babies – Noah and Kamila!
Ayesha’s finds great purpose in helping people help others 🙂  Through clear and consistent communication, she will work with you personally to make sure all the details as you Host a Retreat at Istmo are flawless.

What our guests are saying:

I have just returned from Istmo after running a small vegan yoga retreat here. From the first email I received from Ayesha last year, to the moment we said goodbye to her wonderful husband and co-host Sean, I cannot be more grateful to have found this place and its caring owners. The space has clearly been built with love and intention, and from the comfortable cabañas to the well kept yoga shala, everything is very well maintained and exceptionally clean. The beds are so comfy!
We had requested a 100% vegan menu for our stay and I was very impressed with the quality of the food, the variety and the attention to detail to cater for everybody’s needs at all times.
Istmo is located a few minutes walk from the beach, and it is safe and easy to get there, even on your own. A few people did the excursion to El Valle and they really enjoyed their experience too (I stayed behind enjoying some peaceful time in the hammock – bliss).

By far the highlight for me from our stay was the personal touch provided by Sean and Ayesha. They are wonderful human beings, and exceptional hosts: you will be in the best hands with them.” – Miriam RM, International Retreat Leader.

We look forward to sharing our slice of paradise with you!
