If you’re dreaming of hosting your own private retreat, here’s what you need to know to make it easy, meaningful, and truly memorable.

Why Choose Panama for Group Adventure Travel?
Panama is the perfect backdrop for your private retreat because it offers:
Easy access with direct flights from many U.S. and Canadian cities, and minimal time zone differences.
A range of experiences, from island hopping and surfing to cultural tours and rainforest adventures.
Year-round warm weather means beach days, ocean swims, and outdoor gatherings are always in season.
A welcoming, safe environment that feels both adventurous and comfortable for your group.
What to Consider When Planning Your Private Group Retreat
Planning a private retreat in Panama is an exciting opportunity to gather your favorite people in a beautiful setting for connection, adventure, and celebration. Here are key considerations to help you plan with ease:
Know Your Group
Think about who’s coming. What ages, activity levels, and preferences will you need to consider? Any dietary preferences or accessibility needs? Gathering this information early helps you create a welcoming, fun experience for everyone.
Timing and Seasons
Panama is warm all year, but knowing the difference between the dry season (December–April) and green season (May–November) can help shape your plans. The dry season offers sunny skies and ease of travel, while the green season brings lush greenery and fewer crowds. Learn more in our blog about the different seasons!
What to Pack
Keep it simple: breathable clothing, a swimsuit, sandals, a reusable water bottle, sunscreen, insect repellent, and comfortable walking shoes. A lightweight rain jacket is helpful if you’re visiting during the green season. We’re happy to share a custom packing list tailored to your group’s retreat plans!
Plan Transportation Thoughtfully
Panama is easy to navigate with Uber in cities and private group transfers for excursions. When you stay at Istmo, we take care of your airport transfers and transportation for all included activities, so your group can simply enjoy the journey.

While Panama offers endless activities, a balanced retreat blends structured adventures with downtime. Plan anchor experiences like a waterfall hike, beach day, or cultural tour while leaving space for hammock naps, beach walks, and conversations under the stars.

Guest Review: Perfect Venue for Our Family Reunion
I can‘t thank Istmo Retreat enough for providing the perfect venue for our family reunion this summer (22 people from California, Colombia, and Spain!). Their property is beautifully tranquil, and the beach is unbelievably picture-perfect! Rooms were well-appointed, beds were super comfortable, and the overall ambiance was wonderful. It was such a gift to be able to spend so much time together, gathering on the Istmo patio for meals, and games, and chatter, and more meals and more games (apologies for the raucous evenings!)
We loved the daily yoga classes: Ayesha did some magic by accommodating our not-so-nimble crowd, while still challenging the more practiced among us. The surfing at Palmar was excellent for learners, fun for the veterans, too. Sean, thank you for taking us paddle-boarding in the manglars (a highlight for many of us). And thank you for the outings to El Valle and Embera: your flexibility and devotion to providing the best experience for us was heroic! And of course many thanks are in order for the wonderful meals, and especially for accommodating so many particular diets.
